Great Bay Sponsored Racing

Rick Beineke #93

Rick Beineke started racing motorcycles in the early 70’s at the age of 15.

At that time his first sponsorship was Sunshine Cycle in Holiday Florida. His competitive edge made him place very well at Golden Eagles Race Track in Tampa. As well as in Dade City and other parts in the state of Florida AMA American Motorcross Assoc.& NML - National Motorcycle League racing league.

Rick remembers a time when he raced at Chicken Farm Race Track, he went for a jump, and he flew, 35 to 40 feet into the air, straight up! Rick loves to race motorcycles, cars or whatever!

When Rick raced into the 80’s, before having to work to help support the household at a young age he went into race cars. Working into his own business for about 15 years he finally purchased his race first car.  A 1970 mustang that cost him $1,500.00 and it drove like he pad a buck for it.

Rick in 1975 - Sunshine Speedway

As Rick raced he became better as a clean racer. He has 29 win’s, Rookie of the year in 1997 and Placed 8th in 1999 for track champion, in 2000 he placed 9th for track champion, and in 2002 placed 6th for track champion.

His desire to race now is even stronger than before. Due to a shoulder injury, he’s been off for 2 years. Hoping next year he will be ready to race.

BUD CAR #93     May 8th 2004

Sunshine Speedway put us in the back once again, we started 24th.  When the green flag dropped; Joey  Liguori passed two cars at once, and later on in the race the car started to over heat,  to 265 ( to hot ) he called in on the radios an I said  “bring it in and we will see what’s going on” before it blows up!

As for the over heating problem caused by the air not getting threw the radiator, we used duct tape and made an air duct for the air to go threw the radiator. Joey went back out, and it helped for a short time. He called in on the radio again say its 265 again! We ended the night with 18th place.

May15, 2004 is the last week end before Joey Liguori goes to Indy to race!!

Started the race in the back again to see if we got the problem solved. We put some metal over the radiator. Again the car heated up and John was there to see if he could put his expertise in it. Found out that the radiator cap was bad and the heating problem was that the air was not getting in to the radiators fins. Back to the drawing board !!!

May 23rd   New driver and car should be ready say John and Rick!!

Troy Meridith

The demand car #93 we hope is ready!!!  Back out and Troy Meridith is driving this time. He took out the car in practice and he said the cars has some power however it needed a little adjustment to tame and control that much power!

The race starts with Troy in the back (new driver rules), the green flag drops. Off they go. He takes over two cars into the 3rd turn. Go Troy Go! As he comes out of the turn, he’s smoking the right rear wheel. In about 20 laps he calls in on the radio to say that the cars getting hot again! We ask him how hot , he says about 235 degrees and climbing !   Wowzers!  Race was over. In spite of this, we're going to take next week off to take what everything apart to fix this problem, and be done with the over heating!!  We will see you  JUNE 5th.

Sunshine Speedway

Sunshine Speedway and Sunshine Dragstrop are located north of St. Petersburg, Florida on Ulmerton Road, just west of I-275. Sunshine Speedway is a 1/4 mile paved oval with a figure 8 track inside. The oval is 65 feet wide with 8 degree banking. The dragstrip is a paved 1/8 mile strip running IHRA E.T. Brackets on Saturday night.

2004 is likely to be the last year of operation for these tracks, as the 125 acre property has been purchased by the Florida DOT in anticipation of building a new connector between I-275 and the Bayside Bridge. The dragstrip promotor apparently hopes to continue to lease the dragstrip facility for the time being, as the DOT will not start building the new connector for some time. As of this writing (2/3/2005), there is no sign of dragstrip operations in 2005, although the web site is still up.
